Originating from the same concept as the Ball Chair by Eero Aarnio, the Bubble Chair maintains the same ball shape while losing the pedestal to be instead suspended from the ceiling. In addition, the materials used by Aarnio are different to achieve the singular appearance and allow light in from all angles. Aarnio explains the creative choice of materials, After I had made the Ball Chair I wanted to have the light inside it and so I had the idea of a transparent ball where light comes from all directions. The only suitable material is acrylic, which is heated and blown into shape like a soap bubble. The design also provides a quiet and calm feel while inside due to the fact the user is almost entirely surrounded by the shell. The chair is manufactured in Finland by Adelta, which is the only licensed producer of selected original designs by Eero Aarnio.
